Firefox passing Internet Explorer in marketplace

Firefox is a very popular browser with the more educated enthusiast user and while latest numbers showed it trailing IE6 by 1.4%, in October it appears than even more people are adopting Firefox as it now surpasses IE6 by 1.2%

While we all know IE6 is ancient code in todays marketplace it is still the most used version of Internet Explorer - which gives us some indication that the general public really don't update their machines very often, if at all.

IE in total, across all the versions has a marketplace percentage hold of 64.64% and Firefox has 24.07% however IE versions 7 and 8 only hold 18.6% and 20.5% respectively - this is a hell of an achievement for the Firefox browser.

Only Opera and IE saw a decline in usage statistics in October.

Like , Tipstaff said . This share aren't fare , because IE comes with windows as default and most people are lazy/don't know/don't bother about chnging their browser even though it is like crap.

IMO , IE6 is the worst version of IE of all time. It is damn slow and a hell of memory hog.

I use Chrome as my default browser and I am really satisfied with it . Granted there are some bugs and issues , but we also should know that chrome is in his early ages and I am sure Google are aware of theses issues as well.

Of all time? Nah, there have been worse versions before it.

True, аnd I'm getting a feeling that it's because people are still very uninformed, even if they use computers on regular basis.

A week ago, a friend asked me to help her as she's caught some rogue security software which told her that she was infected and needed to purchase the "full version" to remove it and it was also affecting browsing and I was slightly appalled when I saw that she was using IE6 (but didn't say anything). Since IE was almost useless, I installed Firefox which worked normally and then removed the "security software" with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.I saw her last night again and thought I'd mention to her that if she's using IE, she'd really better switch to a new version, but it turned out that she tried Firefox and liked it. Аpparently, she knew very little about it before she saw me use it.

Re: Firefox passing Internet Explorer in marketplace

If you are on XP, take autoupdates and have not specifically refused IE8, then by now, you have IE8, so who is still using IE6 for external websites?

Older Windows, Non-updaters (eww! vulnerabilities), or are they all users with a genuine requirement to stick to it.

Re: Firefox passing Internet Explorer in marketplace

i find myself using FF more than IE now. i don't really know why, i just do, lol. i'd never think i'd EVER use FF as my primary browser, but here i am, using FF as my primary browser, lol.

anyways, with ie6, i don't even bother - i'd rather use ie7/8. of the three, ie7 is my favorite. and those three versions of IE all offer something that FF doesn't when it comes to forum browsing/posting - the use of ATL + S. to me, that is a superior edge to web browsing than any version of FF.
