X-Men Origins: Wolverine (PS3)
We wouldn't dare overlook cultural touchstones like the first few Superman and Batman films -- especially those of us who grew up poring over their illustrated adventures -- but superhero flicks have made leaps and bounds over the past eight years, becoming yearly studio tentpoles and reliable summer fun. Sure, we were excited to see our favorite heroes come to life on the silver screen pre-2000, but they always seemed to encounter roadblocks: licensing issues, swelled budgets, and special effects that were perpetually almost where they needed to be.

TribesNext
TribesNext is a new project that revives the multiplayer gameplay of TRIBES 2, the shooter sequel by Dynamix that was released in 2001. The game was released for free in 2004, but CD keys to activate the game were only distributed for a short time, and are no longer available, and even if they were, Sierra shut down the TRIBES 2 authentication servers late last year. TribesNext offers a patch to eliminate the need for a CD key and provides account management. It looks like care has been taken to ensure this all remains legal, but hopefully this won't be an issue given the free TRIBES 2 release, and the fact that support for the sequel, Tribes Vengeance, was cut before the game's first patch.

Street Fighter IV Hands-on
Can a 2D fighter capture the imagination in this day in the same way that 1992's The World Warrior once did? Can a new generation raised on the finer points of first-person shooters grapple with the delicacies of hit boxes and stick skills? We don't have all the answers, but know this; in the weeks since receiving playable code of Street Fighter IV for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, there's been a countless number of nights spent in the office well beyond clocking-off time getting to grips with the nuances of the spiritual retread of what's arguably the beat-'em-up genre's finest hour, and inarguably its most fondly recalled.
