Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

Been playing it for the last couple of days, and I have to say that I'm liking it so far. My biggest gripe, however, is the graphics, specifically the draw distance. From what I've heard this is not an issue with the PC version, as well, the PC version is supposed to have the graphics ramped up in many ways, so if you have the PC to run Prototype you might want to grab that one instead.

Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

I picked up the PC version yesterday (yeah, I know.. that means I have 2 versions right now), and I must say: PC rules. The graphics are not just better... they're way better. 3x the draw distance, better textures, better color for some bloody reason, sharper graphics (unfortunately only up to 4x AA)... just way better.

It's still good on the consoles, but pick it up for the PC if you can run it. It's worth it.

Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

Well I have had a good play at this today for a few hours and I have to say im slightly disappointed. Its not a bad game but the amount of buttons make remembering anything quite difficult.

Maybe im just getting old !

for those interested the game is on Steam now for the PC.

Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

I remember GTA IV PC key mapping were very stupid , sometimes press e rather than w to throttle and as a result he jumps of the car , almost all keys were occupied alongside with the mouse, you can't even play with just two hands , games like this "aka dump port " are designed to be played with X360 controller , WTF, then what is the difference between consoles and PC ?? . The only damn different thing the "better graphics" they keep bitching about for every PC port .Damn ,I want to use my keyboard and mouse and have a NORMAL SIZED CROSSHAIRS.

Grabbed it and will try it myself tonight. On too many buttons I keep getting lost on RE5 for the PS3 maybe I am getting old too

Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

I certainly can't say im too impressed with the PC version !

It crashes on two of my three PC's on start up and on the one that it does work with the resolution is limited to 1280x800 (half the native resolution of the panel - with a 285 GTX) and you can't set it higher than 2 AA! Looks like a shoddy console port to me. Their forum would certainly verify there are a TON of PC issues right now http://forums.activision.com/viewfor...4158966ef4158b

Problem #7: [Prototype PC Crash] When launching the game, Prototype crashes immediately with this error message “prototype has encounterd a problem and needs to close”
Solution : No known solution yet. Please post in the comment box below if you experience this error along with some description like, how often you get this error + your system specs.

Seen this on both dual CPU systems I have that work with 99% of games released.

PC buyers beware.

EDIT: Hows this for a resolution fix ! http://forums.activision.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=2344

For the resolution, create shortcut of .exe to desktop and at the end of target line add windowed , no " or - , just space and windowed.
In the same window set run:maximized.
Now you maximum resolution will be your desktop resolution but your windows mouse will be visible while you play , which is very annoying.
If you got a gamepad , play with it. It has to be xbox360 gamepad otherwise it wont be recognized by game.
You can make any gamepad work by checking sticky called "GAme controller and mouse issues: post here"
Thats only temporary solution cause this game has lots of problems , patch is needed sooner as possible.

Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

Wow. That's rough, Z. I've yet to have it crash, and I've even ran it for a couple hours straight on my gaming rig @ 1920x1200, 4xAA (in-game AA, not forced). The only difference, however, is that I'm running it on Windows 7 RC1 build 7137 vs Vista x64 (SP2) in my specs.

I did have one issue at first that pissed me off greatly: super fast chipmunk audio. Anyone remember the way Rockstar did the phone calls and the police radio in the original GTA? That's what it sounded like. The fix for me was to turn off ALL of Creatives crap related to EAX, CMSS3D, and so fourth. After that everything was fine.

Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

Hey, Z, HERE's something of interest:

Quote:Instead of making available all resolutions to all users, Prototype devs have decided to enable certain resolutions only for video cards with high memory. This in my opinion was a bad choice. Anyways only the following screen resolutions are available if your video card has less than 512MB of video memory.
 • 640 x 480
 • 800 x 480
 • 800 x 600
 • 1024 x 768
 • 1152 x 720
 • 1152 x 864
 • 1280 x 720
 • 1280 x 800
The following resolutions (plus all of the above) are available for video cards with 512MB or more video memory.
 • 1280 x 1024
 • 1440 x 900
 • 1600 x 1200
 • 1680 x 1050
 • 1920 x 1080
 • 1920 x 1200
 • 2048 x 1152
 • 2048 x 1536
 • 2560 x 1600
If this is the case, the limit of 1280x800 that you are having, could it be that the game isn't detecting how much memory you have on the video cards?

BTW, just a side note for those reading this, I should mention that with Windows 7 I have UAC set to "Never" on the scale (essentially off), that I updated DirectX using the one on the DVD (as it wouldn't run at first saying it was missing dll's and what not), that I'm using the latest WHQL Nvidia drivers (185.85) and not the betas, and I'm using an X-Fi XtremeGamer for audio (with Creatives' Windows 7 drivers). Oh, and my speaker setup is 2.1.. if that makes a difference.

Total dumbness , for examble there is 8800 gta (320MB vram) which is far better than integated ati 3200 GPU (which can handle up to 1 GB taken from system Ram )

Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

After extensively playing with all three versions today, xbox 360, PC and Playstation 3 - the version to get IMO is the PS3 one. It seems to run slightly faster than the 360 and has some nicer graphics in a few sections.

The PC version is an absolute disaster zone. I got it working on a few PC's but i had to not only make changes to the app but also in vista. I also had to roll back Nvidia drivers to pre 185.85 sets to get it stable (well almost stable, it still crashes out randomly).

If anyone is unlucky enough to have the PC version and are experiencing any of 150 recorded bugs check out the thread at the bottom of this post as there are fixes and help for a plethora of them. There are some systems however that Rudy over on the official forums says will not run the game right now, there are some patches coming soon.

Some fixes are to disable HID devices. plug out your keyboard until the game loads then put it back in. some registry changes too which might help as well as rolling back to old drivers, turning off vsync, AA and even texture detail. One guy I know had to make his vista resolution 800x600 to get the game to run.

Some possible "fixes" here for what is clearly a shoddy bit of coding and half assed console conversion.

Activision Games Forums • View topic - SOLVED: Slow performance / no GPU usage / low resolution

Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

No problems running the game here and the action is fun for a while, but the graphics are a couple of years old and the Playstation 2 -feeling that I got from the first trailer I saw remains in the game. Apparently this gaming house made a piss poor game called Hulk long ago and wanted to reuse some of the game mechanics in a gameworld of their own. Recurring production delays made the game come out much later than they hoped for and for a few sparingly used shader effects there wasn't much they could do to polish it. It could have been a great engine for games like GTA3:San Andreas, a game that had a lot of good stuff on top of a shaky structure.

Animations are good, you'll see lots of characters on the screen and the video sequences are well made, although they rarely add anything to a story that waters down quickly. If you compare with a similar game like Assassins Creed there's not only a huge difference in the presentation of the game but the weaker story and atmosphere also shows. But here at least you have real superpowers and jumping between skyscrapers or fighting supermutants on top of them is a new experience to me. This could well be a good pick from the budget bin, where it should end up fairly quickly.

I have a superpower nit to pick with this game as well. They suggest that the powers are all genetics but that doesn't work in my take on superpowers, what happens in the game and what the lead character does hints strongly towards interdimensional or reality-folding powers.

Re: Prototype (PS3 & X360) Review @ GH

ive got it for the pc... what a damn joke. i exceed the min requirements in everything, except 256megs vram, i fall right on that. everything on low, no aa, and the game runs like complete shit. i can barely hit 30fps in an empty scene. anything with people or action in it and im sitting at 18.

its also complete crap that they locked people out of res settings based on how much vram you have. highest i can even set it to is 1024x768. 1280x1024-1600x1200 requires 512. anything over 16x12 requires 1gig+.

Sorry, guys, for suggesting the PC version to everyone. Reading all the crap on Activisions forums and other places, on how crappy it can run, or not at all, I feel bad for having recommended it.

My biggest gripe about the game is that they could have easily made this a Games for Windows Live! title, and chose not to do so. The game still has you unlocking events, collecting orbs, and doing achievements just like with the console versions, but there is no need to do so, no point to it at all unless you want to unlock the Radical Platinum Events.

It's a game mate they come and they go we can never be sure unless we actually try it ourselves so no biggie

I have tried the PC version and I found the following:

1.Camera movements and aiming with mouse and keyboard are not optimized for PC. I can't say there is aiming too much but Auto-Aim with the tab button.
2.Good visuals overall but there is some low detailed textures you could find here and there (like the military uniform and some buildings).
3.The game sound are toooooo low that you could hardly hear voices.I set the Speakers volume to maximum and yet can't hear very clearly.
