Gamer steals from virtual world to pay real debts

TORONTO, July 2 (Reuters) - Facing real world debts, a trusted figure in a popular online game stole money from the virtual bank he ran and exchanged it for cash through the black market.

It happened in EVE Online, where more than 300,000 subscribers pay $15 a month to play. They gain wealth through hard work, manipulating the market, or killing rivals in a distant future where humans have colonized the stars in an online game similar to World of Warcraft and Second Life.

yup.. people been doing this for ages in these games..

get lucky or manage to get some damn good loot in the game...sell on the black market..... pay your real life bills..

shit people been making their entire living off sitting in front of games playing....

There is no big deal about this it is the same thing as taking from a bank. Don't do it and they won't catch you.

technically... no it's not.... in the round about way..

taking from a bank is getting something for no work involved at all.. where as from a game, you work for it....

hell, i'd do that myself if i had to. reading from the article it doesn't seem that he's being legally prosecuted so it works out for him.

But it doesn't belong to you either way. Like using a gun. You can train to use it, but if you use those skills against the law it's definitely still a crime.
